2022 Fall Rehearsal Notes

11/2/22 (Sorry—these notes are very incomplete) We learned the choreography to Santa’s on His Way Medley. We will warm up each week with this. Deeji expects us to watch the video (from tonight’s practice) and work on the moves in between Wednesdays.

10/29/22 Alto Sectional

Spirit of the Season!!!

“There’s no place that I’d rather be…”

10/26/22 We sang At Christmas (before the photo shoot) and then, when upstairs, we sang At Suddenly, Season of Light, I Love the Winter Weather, Ose Shalom, Santa’s On His Way, First Noel, and At Christmas (one more time).

Counting Down - Rhythm change—p. 12 m.76 Half note changed to a quarter note and add a quarter rest.

Note change— p.12, m.78 Altos will sing these notes: “It’s (G, as written) Christ- (C, as written), mas (back to G, which continues into the next measure)”

Ose Shalom — From the pickup to m.15 through m.18 will be a solo

Santa’s on His Way—Optional notes—p.5 m.20-21 Altos can sing an octave down

Note from Deeji—p.11 m.64 into 65 No breath as you crescendo

10/12/22 We sang And Suddenly, The First Noel, Counting Down to Christmas, Spirit of the Season, and At Christmas

Starting with 10/8/22 notes, I’ll post notes so the most recent are on top.

10/8/22 We sang And Suddenly, At Christmas and added movement to the chorus, Ose Shalom, Spirit of the Season, The First Noel, and Santa’s On His Way

At Christmas Word Change—”being with the one you love” (not “ones you love”)

Spirit of the Season—p.6 m.19-20 No breath between measures

Final note from Deeji about music coming up—we’ll sing Counting Down to Christmas on Wednesday, 10/12/22

9/21/22 We sang And Suddenly, Season of Light, and half of At Christmas

7:43pm And Suddenly

Spoke through rhythms

7:59 Broke off into sections (S & A, Basses, and Tenors)

Vocal parts 1) At Letter E, there is a part for “small group”. These altos will sing “small group”: Katy, Mako, Sarah, Jean. (I’m not positive that’s totally accurate)

2) On the last note of the piece, Alto 1 sings the C and Alto 2 sings the G

8:30 Basses and tenors rejoined

8:40 Sang the whole song

8:48pm Season of Light Broke into sections

Vocal parts Sarah and Katy will sing Soprano 2 (There may be more altos singing Soprano 2.)

9:20 Whole song with all parts

9:27pm At Christmas to measure 40

9/28/22 We sang And Suddenly, At Christmas, Spirit of the Season, and Season of Light

7:40 And Suddenly, sections (S/A and T/B) practicing parts B and D

7:47-7:53 Whole song with all parts

8:04 At Christmas, sections (S/A and T/B)

Word change—all -ing changed to -in’ (bells are ringin’, in the dinin’ room, etc.)

8:15 Note change—on p.6 m.37, p.9 m.71, and p.10, m.79, we will NOT sing three Ds in a row. We will sing D E D, as it appears in the rhyming word two measures beforehand. (p.5 m.35 singin’ will match p.6 m.37 b-ringin’, etc.)

8:23 S/A whole song with accompaniment

8:27 SATB whole song with accompaniment

8:37 Spirit of the Season

8:41 Deeji talked about a few things to do to practice this song, which requires proper technique. Broke up into S/A and T/B.

9:12 SATB whole song

9:34 Season of Light

10/5/22 We sang And Suddenly, Ose Shalom, Spirit of the Season, and Season of Light

And Suddenly p.10, last note of m.56 into first note of m.57—How to sing the F and then repeated (tied) G’s: high- eh- est

8:33 We listened to a recording of Ose Shalom

8:38 sections (S/A and T/B)

Rhythm change—In measures 8, 10, 12, 55, 57, and 59, shorten the whole note (“lom” of “shalom”) to a dotted half note and add a quarter note rest. In m.22, change the dotted half note to a half note and add a quarter rest (so the T/B can be clearly heard on their entrance). In m.28, change the quarter note on “nu” (of “aleynu”) to an eighth note and add an eighth note rest. In m.49, shorten the dotted half note so you have an eighth note rest before “Ya’” for a quick break/breath. Also, there will be a break between the very last two words, “shalom” and “amen”.

9:10 all parts with lyrics

9:22 Spirit of the Season

This will start our concert with a processional. The piano and bells will play while the choir processes.

9:35 Season of Light
