October 12: Join us at Seattle Sings!
The fourth biennial Greater Seattle Choral Consortium all-choir festival–Seattle Sings!–is coming up, October 10th through 12th. This free event showcases 35 dynamic choirs from around the Puget Sound region, of all types and styles: medieval to barbershop, jazz to classical, men's and women's and SATB choirs, heritage choirs, and more! Each group has 20 minutes to perform, and audience members can come and go as they please.
This year, the GSCC welcomes Northwest composer Ethan Sperry as the festival's composer-in-residence. Mr. Sperry has been commissioned by the GSCC to compose this year's festival anthem, and will be present to conduct participating choirs and the audience in performing this anthem periodically throughout the festival.
Friday evening, Northwest composer Morten Lauridsen will be honored for his many years of service to choral music, and six choirs will present a retrospective of his work. Lauridsen himself will be in attendance, and to cap the evening will lead the audience and choirs in one of his most beloved works, "Sure on this Shining Night."
The Northwest Firelight Chorale is performing on Saturday, October 12th at 3pm. All performances will be held at Seattle First Baptist Church at 1111 Harvard Avenue, Seattle WA 98122 (map).
